Carmen graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with an LLB degree and an LLM degree in Medical Law. She is an admitted attorney specialising in all aspects of individual and collective labour law.
She has represented and provided advice to clients in the sugar industry, shipping and logistics industry, motor industry, metal industry and the wood and paper sector.
Carmen has extensive experience in all areas of labour law including, misconduct, incapacity, unfair labour practice disputes, unfair discrimination, sexual harassment, protected and unprotected strike action, organisational rights disputes, demarcation disputes, retrenchments, section 197 transfers, unilateral changes to terms and conditions of employment and drafting of workplaces policies and contracts of employment. She also provides training on employment practices and legislation and chairs disciplinary hearings, incapacity hearings and grievance hearings.
Carmen has also served on the South African Society for Labour Law, KwaZulu-Natal Chapter Committee in the capacity as President, Vice-President and Committee Member. She remains a member of SASLAW.
