Anisa Govender is a director and head of our maritime department with over 20 years’ experience. She holds BA LLB LLM (Maritime Law) degrees from the University of Natal and has extensive experience in several aspects of shipping law, particularly ship arrests, admiralty litigation, emergency marine casualty response, regulatory and general admiralty advice, ship and cargo sale and purchase. She has also chaired several boards of inquiry arising from incidents at the ports and is heavily involved in litigation arising from loss of or damage to cargo and/or vessels and issues arising from procurement of port equipment.

Anisa is a member of the Maritime Law Association, of which she is the past national secretary, the Durban Marine Insurance Forum, the South African Maritime Professionals Forum and an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers. She previously served as the representative of the Maritime Law Association on the eThekwini Maritime Cluster and is currently the chairperson of the Maritime Law Association (Durban Chapter). Anisa serves on the LMAA sub – committee of the MLA currently modifying the London Maritime Arbitrators Association Rules for use in South Africa.
